The Somau Garia people wrestle with a changing culture. Their youth are coming of age in a time when mobile phones are ubiquitous. Those phones provide access to global social media. Even twenty years ago, they would have drawn their values from their elders or local society. Now … less so. Significant friction is developing between generations—friction which has never existed before.

As both older and younger generations are grappling with this rapidly accelerating change, the Somau Garia New Testament translation is nearing completion. Its coming couldn’t be more timely. When society is losing stability, the Word of God stands apart as foundational and unchanging—solid ground.

Answered Prayer

For some time now, we have asked you to pray that Angela’s visa would be approved so that she can travel with me to Papua New Guinea in a few months. We know that officials are reviewing her application at the moment, but we don’t yet have the approval. Please keep praying that she will receive approval sooner than later.

We have also asked you to imbue the translation team with strength, fitness, and good health as they itinerate to read previously approved scripture portions publicly through the Somau Garia speaking area. While the leader of the translation team is experiencing health issues, most of the team are doing well. Thank you for praying!

Finally, we asked you to pray for God to give me clarity, insight and wisdom in the exegetical (meaning) check of Revelation and my review of Mark’s Gospel, which was published 19 years ago. God continues to answer that prayer as I find that the hours spent in the study continue to be fruitful. Thank you for praying!

For Your Prayer

At the time of writing this post, I am working through the text of Revelation, in preparation for upcoming consultant check–the final check needed to be able to release the book for use by the community, as well as publish and print it.

  • Pray that the Somau Garia team and I will catch rough spots that could potentially confuse end users—and have insight into how to render the ideas clearly so that those using the Somau Garia translation will be able to internalize and be changed by the Word.
  • Continue to pray that Angela’s visa will be approved sooner rather than later.
  • Pray that we will be energized, protected and empowered to pull down the strongholds the enemy has spent millennia erecting.
  • Pray that the members of the team struggling with health issues will be strengthened and healed.
  • Thank God that He is steadfast and sure. He carries us through our weakness and blesses the work of our hands.

Thank You!

Thank you for praying with us—your prayer is instrumental in our ability to keep it moving on all fronts. Blessings!
